In December 2019, I had the pleasure of attending the Exposition Vampire - From Dracula to Buffy at the Cinematheque in Bercy Paris. This exposition explores the evolution from Victorian literature to present day the Modern Vampire Mythos in literature and cinema. The exposition was well done with a hallway like entrance, with actual manuscripts from ancient times, costumes from Interview with the Vampire and Bram Stokers Dracula. The only down sides was lack was two of my favorite films Lost Boys and The Hunger and an abrupt ending without a cliffhanger or grande finale ending. If you are in Paris before January 19th I highly recommend checking this exposition out.
Here is the description of the exhibit:
Emerged from the depths of the Middle Ages, the legend of the vampire takes shape at the end of the XIX th century with Dracula, the famous novel by Bram Stoker. The cinema emerges at the same moment, which does not take long to seize the nascent myth to feed it and to decline it with frenzy and irreverence. The Vampires exhibition tells these two parallel stories, the fascination of filmmakers around the world for this dark and sexy icon. It shows its power of attraction that has long since overflowed the strict framework of cinema, contaminating painting, photography, literature or more recently the TV series. She celebrates the Gotha Cinema, Coppola, Christopher Lee, Lugosi, Deneuve, Herzog, Bigelow, Browning, Adjani, Bowie, Pattinson or Tim Burton, who for a century rubbed Dracula. Populated by artists haunted by its black shadow (Warhol, Goya, Saint Phalle), rich with hundreds of extracts, it reveals the Twilight, from Dreyer to True Blood.
